Runaway Brides vs. Coffin Draggers

Phoenix, AZ (September 14). It’s Championship time for season 6 of the Arizona Derby Dames! Saturday, September 24th at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum, the Runaway Brides skate against the reigning champs from 2010, the Coffin Draggers for the trophy. To begin the night, though, you don’t want to miss the Arizona Derby Dames all star team, the Hot Shots vs. Tucson Roller Derby’s banked track team the Bank Robbers.

Tucson Roller Derby travel to Phoenix for the second time this season to play on the banked track at Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Participants in the Battle on the Bank tournament in June, TRD, a flat track league, are expanding their experience to occasionally skate on the banked track. They will face the Arizona Derby Dames Hot Shots, hot off a killer bout in Los Angeles against the L.A. Derby Dolls Sirens on September 10th.

The main event, though, is the championship match up. The Coffin Draggers earned their spot in the championship game by having an undefeated 2011 season. First ranked team of the regular season got a bye to the September 24th bout. The Runaway Brides’ hard fought victory from the 2011 playoffs earned them their spot in the championship. The Brides beat the Brutal Beauties in the playoffs mini-tournament to face the Bombshells in the deciding game. Neck in neck the whole game through, the Brides won against the Bombshells by just two points in an overtime race to the championship.

Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum is located at 1826 W. McDowell Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85007 (602-252-6771). Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. with the bouts starting at 7:00 p.m. General admission tickets for the stadium seats in the Coliseum will be $12. Two hundred general admission tickets are available for standing room on the floor around the track for $12. General admission for children 12 and under is free. VIP tiered seating right off the floor (with access to a nearby VIP only bar and restrooms) will be $20 for adults and children. Parking will be $7. Tickets will be on sale the day of the event at the Coliseum box office starting at 4 p.m. Advance tickets may be purchased until 2 p.m. on September 23rd at tickets.arizonaderbydames.com where group discounts are also available.
